【Tissue and Organ Development】
Professor : KUNISADA,Takahiro
Principal research interests :
  • (Master's Course and Doctor's Course)
    • We are investigating the mechanisms of tissue or organ development from the stem cell populations including embryonic stem cells or other tissue stem cells mainly using cellular and molecular biological methods.
    • Our aim is to understand molecular rules of tissue or organ development including self-renew and differentiation of stem cells themselves. In addition, through such kind of investigations, we are eager to clarify the molecular mechanisms of regeneration applicable to regenerative therapy.
    • Several experiments are ongoing to induce tissues or organs from human ES cells and iPS cells for the materials of cell therapy.
【Neurobiology】
Professor : NAKAGAWA,Toshiyuki
Principal research interests :
Apoptosis is a genetically regulated cellular suicide mechanism that plays a crucial role in development and cellular homeostasis. Disruption of its regulation causes several diseases, for instance cancer and neurodegeneration. The major research and educational objective of this laboratory is to understand the molecular basis of neuronal cell death and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, identifying genes and phytochemical that act a pivotal role in neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease. In particular, we have focused on deciphering the molecular machineries that underlie apoptosis of neurons and ER stress in Alzheimer's disease using the techniques of molecular and cellular biology and mouse genetics hoping to develop therapeutic approaches. The goal of doctor's course in Neurobiology is to educate future neuroscientist who will become leading researchers and educators.

【Microbiology】
Professor : NAGAI,Hiroki
Principal research interests :
  • (Master's Course)
    Through molecular systematic of bacterial taxonomy, we offer opportunity to study following three area.
    1. Molecular mechanisms of Legionella infection
    2. Origin and evolution of pathogenic bacteria
    3. Synthetic biology and phage therapy
  • (Doctor's Course)
    All human ,animal, plant and fish pathogens  from different biosafty level from BSL1 to BSL3 are target of our research. We offer the research opportunity to learn the way to detect and control these pathogens in our living environment such as food, air, soil, water , wild animals, and human.
